EU VAT number – what it is and whether it applies to youUpdated 2 months ago
Most Metabolics customers do not need to enter an EU VAT number at checkout. An EU VAT number only applies if you are ordering on behalf of an EU VAT‑registered business and want the order and invoice in that business’s details.
What is an EU VAT number?
An EU VAT number (VAT identification number) is a unique code issued by an EU country to a business or organisation that is registered for Value Added Tax. It is used on invoices and in tax systems so local tax authorities can track VAT that businesses charge, collect and report.
For cross‑border business‑to‑business (B2B) supplies within the EU, the VAT number helps determine how VAT should be handled on the transaction.
When does the EU VAT number apply to you?
You should only use the “EU VAT number” field at checkout if all of the following apply:
You are based in an EU member state.
You are placing the order on behalf of a VAT‑registered business or organisation (for example, a clinic, company, or institution).
You want the invoice to show the business name, address and VAT number for accounting and VAT reporting.
If you are a private customer in the EU buying for personal use, you do not need an EU VAT number and can leave this box blank. If you are a practitioner ordering in your own name for use in clinic, you usually do not need an EU VAT number unless you are ordering in the name of a separate VAT‑registered company.
Metabolics will still calculate and charge any applicable VAT or import taxes correctly even if you do not enter an EU VAT number.
How Metabolics uses your EU VAT number
Where an EU VAT number is provided, it is stored with your customer account and displayed on relevant invoices to support your own record‑keeping and tax compliance. Your finance team may check it via EU validation tools such as VIES to confirm that it is active and correctly formatted.
Metabolics remains responsible for applying VAT and import rules correctly based on your order value, destination country and current legislation; providing an EU VAT number does not change product formulations, product information, or the regulatory limits on any health or nutrition claims that can be made.
