Can I give Metabolics supplements to my pet?Updated 2 months ago
No. Metabolics supplements are formulated for human use only and should not be given to pets or animals.
Why human supplements are dangerous for pets
Human supplements can be harmful or fatal to animals because they may contain:
Incorrect dosages – Human supplements are dosed for human body weight and metabolism. What's safe for a 70kg human could be toxic for a 10kg dog or 5kg cat.
Toxic ingredients – Many ingredients safe for humans are dangerous for animals, including:
Xylitol (artificial sweetener) – highly toxic to dogs and cats; can cause liver failure and death
Essential oils – toxic to cats and dogs when ingested
High doses of vitamin D, iron, or calcium – can damage organs depending on species and amount
Caffeine or green tea extract – too stimulating or potentially toxic for pets
Chocolate or cocoa powder – toxic to pets
Different metabolic requirements – Animals have different enzyme systems and cannot process certain nutrients the way humans do. For example, dogs and cats lack the enzymes to synthesise certain essential fatty acids and must obtain them from their diet in specific forms.
Regulatory differences – Animal feed regulations require different forms of nutrients. For example, cyanocobalamin is the only form of vitamin B12 currently permitted for use in animal feed, whereas human supplements may use methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin.
