Can You Recommend Supplements for My Medical Condition?Updated 2 months ago
We cannot recommend specific supplements to treat, prevent, or cure any medical condition or disease.
Under UK regulations overseen by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) and FSA (Food Standards Agency), food supplements cannot be marketed to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure medical conditions. Only licensed medicines can legally make such claims.
Why We Cannot Make Recommendations
Supplement companies are prohibited from making medicinal claims without holding a medicines licence from the MHRA. Additionally, any health claims we make must be authorised on the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register.
More importantly, your health and safety are our priority. Medical conditions require individualised assessment by a qualified healthcare professional who understands your full medical history, current medications, and specific circumstances.
What You Should Do Instead
Consult your healthcare practitioner before taking supplements for any medical condition. This includes:
Your GP or consultant
A registered dietitian
A registered nutritional therapist (find one via BANT)
A functional medicine practitioner
Your hospital specialist or oncologist (for serious conditions)
Your practitioner can:
Assess whether supplements are appropriate for your individual needs
Recommend specific nutrients or formulations based on your health status
Check for interactions with any medications you're taking
Provide safe, personalised dosage guidance
Monitor your progress and adjust recommendations as needed
If You're Taking Medication
Always consult your GP or pharmacist before starting new supplements if you take prescription medication. Certain nutrients can interact with medications, affecting their efficacy or safety.
If Your Practitioner Recommends a Supplement
If your healthcare practitioner has recommended a specific nutrient, formulation, or ingredient, we're happy to help you find the right Metabolics product.
Simply contact us with:
The nutrient or ingredient recommended
The dosage or potency required
Any form preferences (e.g., capsules, liquids, specific compound types)
We can then provide detailed product specifications, ingredient lists, and allergen information to ensure our products meet your practitioner's requirements.
Practitioner-Only Products
Some Metabolics products are designated as practitioner-only, meaning they can only be supplied under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
If your practitioner recommends a practitioner-only product, they can contact us directly to discuss access and suitability.
Finding a Qualified Practitioner
If you don't currently work with a nutritional therapist or functional medicine practitioner, these professional bodies maintain registers of qualified professionals:
BANT (British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine): www.bant.org.uk
CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council): www.cnhc.org.uk
